Weather Resistant vs. Weatherproof

Generac Generators are designed to be weather resistant. Generac Generators are not waterproof! Driving rain, sleet, snow and irrigation / Sprinkler systems can cause water and chemicals to enter your generator through the air intake and exhaust vents. Power washing can also enter your generator and transfer switch equipment. Chemicals used in power washing can react with the aluminum construction materials, potentially creating a fire hazard.
Neither of these circumstances are covered by your Generac Warranty. Costly repairs can escalate to include equipment replacement. No amount of service nor servicing dealer can prevent hazards like this. Homeowners insurance may or may not cover your water damage loss. We recommend having a discussion with your agent to review your coverage.
Be safe and protect your investment:
- Review your irrigation system operation and coverage.
- Redirect downspouts away from your generator.
- Keep mulch and rock well below the base of your generator to prevent water entering during heavy rain.
- Review power washing / chemical use prior to having power washing is scheduled or performed
- Clear snow and dry landscape debris away from your generator often.
An ounce of prevention may protect your investment from the elements!
